Travelling in your home

The USA is a continent in it's own right, sometime moving from one city to another within its border is like uprooting your family from one country to another. Jason Torchinsky decided that he want to turn that undertaking into a journey in a compervan ( or RV as the Americans call it ). Here is his story. How I wish we Malaysians can do the same here.

I am not 100% sure what is required to bring in a trailer type camper. Besides paying for the shipment and import duty, if you plan to tow it on public road, you will need to get it inspected by Puspakom ( the Malaysian road vehicle inspection agency ) together with the declared towing vehicle (you need approved tow hook, electrical connection socket to trailer), then get a JPJ to issue a registration card for your trailer along with insurance, a license plate will be issued for the trailer and you can only tow it with the declared towing vehicle (the trailer will have to display both towing vehicle license plate and the trailer's own license plate). Hope this helps.

Hey!
Nice to see ya back! I'm moving north of KL by years end. Still got my Foton and old Haice goin strong.
Mostly day trips but went around Mersing/Rompin /Endau beachs a couple months ago for 3 days.
Whats up? Seems to be more interest in campervans here from what I see online. Check out Malaysian Camper Car on FB.

Sorry for the lack of update guys. My life was turned upside down a bit after my NZ trip. Many changes with my family, children, work and circle of friends. But I guess laziness probably played the biggest part. Time to get off my ass to complete my NZ travel log.

Hi,
Wonder, why it so difficult to get this kind of motorhome/campervan in Malaysia? Is it due to government policy?

Hi Mr TJ Chang, may i know that whether we can import the demountable camper to Malaysia?
If this is possible, what kind of application form is needed to fill in in order to get the approval from JPJ?

Putting a de-mountable camper will still require JPJ approval. You may lookup JPJ website under JPJ Teknik on the procedures for approval.

This is a monster! Not sure how much the road tax will be, but it will not be cheap for sure.

What a fantastic post!! This is very much similar to my friend’s story. He used to travel a lot in his camper. He is really crazy for campers and has several campers. Now he is planning to start his own campervan hire Australia service. I wish his dream comes true!

I love to escape from the crowd to a new place in my camper-van as you also did... and I just like your blog because you always share a good post with us. I'm living in my van for 3 years and enjoyed the whole time, and after seeing peoples like you who are sharing their amazing memories with us planning to start my own blog soon... you are really amazing...

Hi TJ Chang, I hope you don't give up on this blog. Mobile homes should be made the way of the future here in Malaysia. It would help a lot of people in having this kind of home since the price of properties has become so un-affordable for many. A permanent live-in mobile home would also mean flexibility for working people. They don't need to deal with ridiculous jams to work in different locations just because their purchased home is landlocked.
